Senior Spotlight: Cheerleading’s Carli Chesney

Carli Chesney

Cheerleader Carli Chesney is the focus of our Senior Spotlight on this final Friday in the month of May. Here is our conversation.

College Plans: I will be attending Montclair State University in the fall of this year and I will be majoring in nutrition.

Favorite class at CHS? My favorite class at CHS would have to be AP Psychology with Mrs. Iaconelli.

What is your most memorable moment from your athletic career at CHS? My most memorable moment from my athletic career at CHS is anytime my stunt group hit something for the first time. When that happens it motivates you to keep going and to try something more difficult.

Did you play any other sports at CHS? My freshman year I played softball, but from my sophomore to my senior year I was fully dedicated to cheerleading.

How did you first get interested in cheerleading? While I was growing up, my brother played football and my family would go to all of his games and that’s where I started to get interested in cheerleading.

What part of cheerleading interests you the most? Stunting has to be the best part of cheerleading for me because you work together to create the sequences and you become so close with the girls you stunt with. Especially because I was with my stunt group for three out of my four years cheering in high school.

What will you miss most about CHS? I’m gonna miss my classmates and my teachers from CHS the most and how close my class is.

Favorite movie: My favorite movie is Good Will Hunting.

Favorite song or artist: I like a lot of different artists, but my favorite artist is probably Justin Timberlake.

Favorite TV Show: American Horror story is my favorite TV Show.

Favorite post-game snack or meal: I usually ate a veggie burger after games.

What was your favorite road trip from football? The best road trip was when we were coming back from our football game and the whole team was doing chants from camp and we even tried to get the coaches to join in.

Do you plan to cheer in college? I plan on trying out for the cheerleading team at Montclair in my second semester.

Who has been the biggest influence on your athletic career at CHS? The biggest influence on my athletic career was definitely my older sister Jessica considering she was a four year varsity cheerleader and captain my sophomore year.

Which sport do you prefer to cheer at; football or basketball? I definitely enjoy cheering at football games more because of the excitement from the crowd throughout the game and how the little girls cheer along with us.
