Girl’s Lacrosse First Round Playoff Preview at Red Bank Catholic

The Pirates girl’s lacrosse team visits Red Bank Catholic today for the first round of the South, Group 2 Tournament. Here is our first round playoff preview.

When: Wednesday, May 18 at 3:30pm.

Where: Red Bank Catholic.

#13 Cinnaminson: 9-7

#4 Red Bank Catholic: 15-4

The South, Group 2 Tournament began Tuesday when Haddonfield hosted Somerville in the first round and came away with a 20-13 win to advance.

Rumson-Fair Haven is the #1 seed in the bracket this year.

The rest of the games in the bracket will be played today, including #13 Cinnaminson at #4 Red Bank Catholic at 3:3opm.

Cinnaminson comes in with a record of 9-7 and has not played in a week. The last time the Pirates took the field was last Wednesday against Maple Shade.

The Pirates picked up a 21-5 win as Julia Averill netted 11 goals en route to the 100th goal of her career.

Cinnaminson lost its opener to Holy Cross 16-3 and then reeled off four straight wins. The win streak was snapped with a 16-6 loss to Northern Burlington.

The Pirates could not get into a rhythm after the win streak was snapped, playing to a record of 5-6 to finish the regular season. For a stretch of seven games the Pirates traded wins and losses.

Cinnaminson lost in the first round of the South, Group 1 Tournament to Haddonfield last season by a 12-8 score.

Red Bank Catholic enters the playoffs with a 15-4 record after falling to Shore in the semifinals of the Shore Conference Tournament on Friday by a score of 14-8.

The loss snapped a nine-game win streak for the Caseys. Red Bank Catholic has faced the #1 seed in this bracket and fell by a score of 11-3 back on April 20.

The Caseys opened the season with two straight losses to Mendham 10-9 in overtime and state power Moorestown 14-3.

After those two losses Red Bank Catholic reeled off six wins in a row.

The Caseys played 13 of 19 games this season against teams with a .500 or better record. Today will mark 14 out of 20 games against a team with a .500 or better record.

Red Bank Catholic fell in the finals of the South, Group 2 Tournament last season to Rumson-Fair Haven by a score of 14-5.

Cinnaminson and Red Bank Catholic have not met in at least the last eight years.
