Update: Postponed Tuesday due to rain. Rescheduled for Wednesday, May 18 at 3pm.
The Pirates boy’s tennis team travels to West Deptford today for the second round of the South, Group 2 Tournament. Here is our playoff preview.
When: Wednesday, May 18 at 3pm.
Where: West Deptford High School.
#5 Cinnaminson: 14-2
#4 West Deptford: 15-3
Cinnaminson comes into today’s second round playoff match riding a 14-match win streak. The 14 wins in a row puts the Pirates record at 14-2.
Cinnaminson is also undefeated in Freedom Division play with two matches remaining on the regular season schedule against Trenton Catholic and Holy Cross.
The Pirates picked up a 4-1 win in the opening round of the South, Group 2 Tournament last week over Delsea Regional to advance to the quarterfinals.
Cinnaminson has picked up impressive wins this year over Rancocas Valley (3-2), Holy Cross (4-1), Delran (3-2) and two 4-1 wins over Palmyra.
The 2016 season is a far cry from 2015 for the Pirates, who went just 7-6 on the year. It wasn’t due to a lack of talent, but more so because of the weather.
Cinnaminson had a ton of matches either postponed or canceled last year and very few were made up due to the rain.
That hasn’t been the case this season as the Pirates have already played 16 matches and will play at least three more including today’s second round match and final two regular season matches.
West Deptford comes into this second round meeting with a 15-3 record after suffering a 3-2 setback to Kingsway on Monday in a regular season contest.
That loss snapped a seven-match win streak for the Eagles, who took down Oakcrest 5-0 in the first round of the South, Group 2 Tournament.
Twice this year the Eagles have put together seven-match win streaks. The first time happened at the start of the season after a 5-0 loss to Haddonfield, which is the one-seed in this bracket.
These schools last met in the 2012 playoffs with Cinnaminson taking home a 3-2 win in the first round of the South, Group 2 Tournament.
Today’s second round match is scheduled to begin at 3pm.
