Baseball vs Collingswood Second Round Playoff Preview

The Pirates baseball team hosts #14 Collingswood today at 4pm in the second round of the South, Group 2 Tournament. Here is our second round preview.

When: Thursday, May 26 at 4pm.

Where: Cinnaminson High School.

#6 Cinnaminson: 12-11

#14 Collingswood: 8-15

#6 Cinnaminson welcomes Collingswood to town this afternoon for a South, Group 2 contest that features an upstart Panthers team and a Pirates team hungry for more.

The Pirates snapped a four-game losing streak on Tuesday with a 6-2 win over #11 Sterling in the first round.

The game took two days to complete due to severe weather in the bottom of the fourth, but the Pirates got the job done on Tuesday by adding two insurance runs late as Brandon Staub pitched three scoreless innings for the save.

Jack Conville picked up the win on the mound, his third of the season. He allowed two unearned runs in his four innings of work and pitched out of a first inning jam that changed the tide of the game early.

Cinnaminson would plate four runs in the bottom half of the inning after Sterling failed to score in the top half.

#14 Collingswood picked up its first tournament win in baseball for the first time in 21 years on Monday when it shocked #3 Cedar Creek on the road by a score of 14-6.

The Panthers racked up 18 hits in the victory. Collingswood then took down Lindenwold in a regular season game on Wednesday by a score of 13-1.

The win over Lindenwold is the Panthers third straight, all while scoring double digits in runs. The Panthers have outscored their opponents 40-11 during their three-game win streak.

Collingswood opened the 2016 season on an 0-4 run before winning two in a row. The Panthers struggled through a five-game losing streak at the beginning of May.

The Panthers suffered losses to Sterling, Gateway, West Deptford, Haddonfield and Overbrook during the losing streak, with all but the loss against Gateway coming in division play (1-9).

The Panthers signature win of the season is without a doubt the first round victory over Cedar Creek on Monday.

These two teams have not met in the past seven seasons.
